Today’s Pulse rundown
Giant Dinosaur
Transcript: What if you discovered a dinosaur twice the size of a Tyrannosaurus rex? UK and Thailand researchers have named a massive new species they found a decade ago in Chaiyaphum! The Nagatitan chaiyaphumensis lived between one hundred and one hundred and twenty million years ago. This long-necked giant weighed twenty-seven tonnes, which is as heavy as nine adult Asian elephants! Finding these ancient bones helps scientists understand exactly how these massive creatures lived and thrived so long ago. The lead researcher even called it a childhood promise fulfilled. If you discovered a brand-new dinosaur, what would you name it?
Tree Kangaroos
Transcript: Have you ever watched an animal loudly chew its food? Zoos across the United States are posting videos of tree kangaroos eating vegetables for the International Tree Kangaroo Crunch-a-Thon! The AZA SAFE organization is running the social media contest ahead of World Tree Kangaroo Day on May twenty-first. There are fourteen species of these bushy-tailed animals, and the golden-mantled tree kangaroo is highly endangered. Sharing these fun videos helps raise awareness so more people care about protecting their rainforest habitats in places like Papua New Guinea and Australia. Next time you eat a crunchy carrot, think of these amazing animals!
Plasma Flowers
Transcript: How do you keep a beautiful bouquet of flowers from wilting? Researchers at Griffith University in Australia found a way to keep cut flowers fresh for a two-week period without using any chemicals! They tested three sets of flowers by treating them with atmospheric plasma. This works because the energized plasma neutralizes bacteria and pathogens without chemicals. It is like giving the plants an invisible shield that stops germs from making the petals droop! This amazing discovery could change how we transport delicate biological materials around the world in the future. What is your absolute favorite type of flower?
Rural College
Transcript: What if a campfire test helped you get into college? The STARS College Network is working hard to recruit students from rural towns to attend major universities! Last year, ninety thousand rural students applied to member schools, which is a fifteen percent increase. At Amherst College in Massachusetts, assistant dean Nathan Grove even joked with visiting students that building a fire was a test of how rural they were! This program matters because it helps students from small towns feel welcome and supported when they move to a big campus. Where would you want to travel for college?
Sony Camera
Transcript: Have you ever taken a photo that turned out too dark? Sony recently clarified how the new artificial intelligence camera assistant works on their Xperia phone! The company explained that the tool does not actually edit your photos for you. Instead, the assistant makes suggestions based on lighting, depth, and subject. For example, it might suggest a zoom to help you get a better shot! It is like having a tiny professional photographer sitting inside your phone, giving you advice before you press the button. What is your favorite thing to take pictures of?
Cosmic Web
Transcript: Get this, astronomers recently took a picture of the universe's hidden highways! Using a telescope in Chile, scientists captured the sharpest direct image ever of a glowing filament in the cosmic web. This massive strand stretches three million light-years and connects two galaxies! The light they photographed traveled for just under twelve billion years to reach Earth. This happens because these filaments act as intergalactic highways, channeling gas into galaxies and fueling the birth of new stars. It is like a giant glowing plumbing system that feeds the entire cosmos! If you could travel down a space highway, where would you go?
Aurora
Transcript: Imagine looking up and seeing the night sky painted in bright purple and green! The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration says a strong geomagnetic storm will make the Northern Lights visible across Canada and the northern United States this Saturday and Sunday night. This beautiful display happens when high-energy space particles violently collide with atoms of gas in a planet's atmosphere! It is like a giant cosmic light show powered by the sun's invisible energy. If you live up north, make sure to look outside just after sunset to catch the show! What colors would you want to see in the sky?
Harry Styles Amsterdam Concert
Transcript: Are you ready to sing along with one of the biggest pop stars in the world? Harry Styles recently kicked off his highly anticipated global tour with a massive Saturday night concert in Amsterdam! He played to a sold-out crowd of nearly sixty thousand fans at the Johan Cruijff Arena alongside his incredible band of eighteen musicians. The show featured a mix of old favorites and tracks from his new album, keeping the fans screaming the entire time! This means millions of people around the world will get to experience his energetic performance as he travels to places like Brazil and Australia. What song would you want to hear live?
Inkonbini
Transcript: What if your favorite video game was just about organizing a store? A brand-new game called Inkonbini lets players experience the relaxing night shift at a Japanese convenience store! Created by Nagai Industries, you play as Makoto, stocking shelves and ordering products for a week. Instead of fighting monsters, you spend your time helping regulars like a journalist named Naomi and a pre-teen named Satoshi. This means you can enjoy a peaceful, cozy adventure where the biggest challenge is making sure the cereal boxes face the right way! What kind of cozy shop would you want to run?
Dog Rescue
Transcript: How far would you go to help a furry friend in need? Last week, a team of eighteen rescue workers spent six hours saving a dog in North Yorkshire! The Staffordshire bull terrier had fallen into a narrow crevice while bounding over the moors and became trapped twenty-one feet underground. The dedicated team worked tirelessly to carefully dig her out and bring her back to the surface safely. This heartwarming rescue reminds us that there are always brave people willing to step up and help animals when they need it most! What is the bravest thing you have ever seen an animal do?
