Australia Home Batteries
Transcript: What if your house could help power your entire neighborhood? In Australia, families are installing home batteries at a massive scale. According to the consultancy Green Energy Markets, about 415,000 batteries have been connected since last July! These batteries mean solar power can be stored and used exactly when it is needed. Instead of relying on expensive gas plants when the sun goes down, homes can just use their stored energy. This is helping to lower electricity prices across the country's 900,000-kilometer grid. Would you want a giant battery attached to your house?
Secret Seal Caves
Transcript: Where do you go when you want to hide from a crowd? Researchers from the Ionian Dolphin Project discovered that rare Mediterranean monk seals are hiding in secret underwater caves! Fewer than 1,000 of these seals remain in the wild. The team monitored a Greek island for 141 days. They found that seals use hidden bubble caves to breathe and hide from unwanted human presence. These caves have an underwater entrance and a pocket of air at the top, making them the perfect quiet spot to rest and chill. If you were a seal, what would your secret underwater hideout look like?
Quantum Twisted Light
Transcript: Imagine a computer so powerful it could solve impossible puzzles in seconds! Researchers at Stanford University just developed a nanoscale device that could make quantum computers much easier to build. Usually, these machines require extreme cooling to minus 459 degrees Fahrenheit! The new device works at room temperature. The team uses special silicon nanostructures to generate twisted light. The photons spin in a corkscrew fashion, which imparts spin on electrons to create quantum bits. This links light and electrons together, overcoming a major hurdle for future technology! What kind of massive puzzle would you solve with a quantum computer?
Trout in the Classroom
Transcript: What if your classroom pet was actually a wild animal? Fourth-grade students at Daly Elementary School in Montana just released more than a hundred rainbow trout into a local pond! They raised the fish from tiny eggs over five months. The project is run by Trout Unlimited. To keep the fish healthy in their 50-gallon tank, the students had to carefully check the water's ammonia and nitrate levels. By doing hands-on science, the kids learned exactly what it takes to keep local watersheds and ecosystems healthy for wildlife. What kind of wild animal would you want to study in your classroom?
Argus Blob Robot
Transcript: Get this - engineers just built a robot that looks like a giant rolling blob! A team at Duke University's General Robotics Lab created a 20-legged robot named Argus. It has no top, no bottom, and no front! The robot uses a concept called dynamic symmetry. This allows the machine to generate forces with uniform magnitude in all directions. Because of this, Argus can move anywhere instantly and easily travel over rough dirt and sand. It will even keep going if some of its legs get damaged! If you had a 20-legged robot, what chores would you make it do?
Ancient Feather Dragon
Transcript: Let's look down at Earth instead of up at the stars for a moment! Scientists from the University of Chicago discovered an ancient bird species in China that lived 121 million years ago. They named it Plumadraco, which means feather dragon! This incredible bird had tail feathers that were twice the length of its entire body! Researchers say the feather structures change throughout their length, resulting in varying levels of swaying when moved. The bird likely used these eye-catching feathers to perform elaborate courtship displays to attract a mate. If you discovered a new dinosaur, what fierce name would you give it?
Virtual Power Plants
Transcript: Did you know your house could actually make money while you sleep? Families in Houston, Texas, are turning their homes into virtual power plants! Jeff and Jenny Wright earn a 240-dollar yearly reward from the energy company Sunrun. The couple has solar panels and battery packs attached to their house. Any excess energy not used by the home is stored in the batteries and sent back to the central power grid. This helps stabilize the grid during times of peak demand, and the power company pays them for it! What would you buy if your house paid you an allowance every year?
A Minecraft Movie Squared
Transcript: Grab your pickaxe, because the biggest block-building game is heading back to theaters! At TwitchCon Europe, Mojang officially announced that the next movie sequel will be called A Minecraft Movie Squared! It is scheduled to hit theaters on July 23, 2027. The studio is giving fans a chance to be part of the action. Between now and June 8, players can create and submit special builds. The winning design will actually be featured in the final cut of the movie for everyone to see! If you could put one of your blocky creations in a movie, what would it be?
BTS Samsung Tour
Transcript: Imagine getting to test out unreleased gadgets at your favorite concert! The electronics company Samsung set up special fan experiences during the BTS Arirang World Tour in Las Vegas last week. Fans got to try out the new Galaxy smartphone, which features a massive 200-megapixel camera. The phone uses artificial intelligence to translate conversations or texts in real time! This allowed fans to send translated messages directly to the band and capture incredible photos in the dark concert arena. If you could send a translated message to any musician in the world, who would it be?
UK Youth Unemployment
Transcript: How do you help a million young people find their dream job? In the United Kingdom, a former Marks and Spencer chief named Marc Bolland is advising the government on how to tackle youth unemployment. A recent review found that more than one million young people are currently not in education or training. To fix this, the government is partnering with major businesses to back 300,000 work experience placements over the next three years. This gives young adults a real chance to learn new skills and start their careers! What kind of work experience would you want to try for a week?
