Marine Expedition

Transcript: What if you could discover dozens of new ocean creatures in just two weeks? A marine expedition in international waters off the coast of Brazil just discovered thirty-one new species! Two dozen experts spent two weeks exploring the ocean midwater, which makes up ninety percent of the living space on our planet. They used a spinning wheel confocal microscope nicknamed the Squid, which uses lasers to scan microscopic details of how organisms are put together. The team found jellyfish, comb jellies, and giant single-celled organisms. If you could explore the deep ocean, what kind of creature would you hope to find?

Himalayan Predators

Transcript: How do three top predators share the exact same mountain valley without fighting? Researchers analyzed six years of camera footage from the Lapchi Valley in Nepal's central Himalayas. They found that snow leopards, common leopards, and Himalayan wolves all coexist in the same area! The three apex predators coexist by relying on different food sources. Snow leopards eat wild sheep, leopards hunt near human settlements, and wolves eat a mix of both. Protecting abundant wild prey is the best way to keep these animals away from livestock and prevent conflict with humans. Which of these three mountain predators is your absolute favorite?

Decoding Birdsong

Transcript: What if you could understand exactly what a bird is singing about? Julie Elie at the University of California, Berkeley, just won a one hundred thousand dollar prize for decoding birdsong! She spent more than fifteen years studying zebra finches and figured out their eleven core calls. During her tests, the birds learned to tap a button to skip unrewarding calls, proving they understand the meaning of their vocalizations. They even use individual signatures to recognize each other! This research is a huge step toward understanding animal communication. If you could translate any animal's language, which species would you choose?

MIT Cleanroom

Transcript: Imagine stepping into a high-tech laboratory to build your very own computer chip! Twelve students from colleges across the Northeast recently spent two days at MIT dot nano. They attended a special boot camp to learn about semiconductor manufacturing and integrated photonics. Integrated photonics is the science of guiding and manipulating light on a semiconductor chip. The students used complex tools to build and test their own packaged chips! This hands-on training helps prepare young people for exciting careers in emerging technologies and national security. Would you want to learn how to build the tiny chips that power our electronics?

Masked IRL Robots

Transcript: How do you teach a robot to do chores without spelling out every single step? Researchers at MIT have developed a new system called Masked IRL. It helps robots safely complete tasks in homes and factories using nearly five times less demonstration data! The system uses a large language model to elaborate on ambiguous prompts based on data collected from a user's demo. Then, another model ignores irrelevant information so the robot can focus on the important details. This helps the machine understand exactly what humans want without needing endless instructions. What chore would you want a smart robot to do for you?

Euclid Milky Way

Transcript: Have you ever seen a photograph with sixty million stars in it? The Euclid space telescope just mapped more than sixty million stars in the Milky Way's central bulge! The massive image was captured in twenty-six hours back in March of 2025. Scientists are studying planets around other stars using a special technique called microlensing. Euclid is faster and can capture details from fainter stars that ground telescopes miss! This incredible snapshot will help astronomers identify hidden cosmic treasures like rogue planets and isolated black holes. If you could point a space telescope anywhere in the galaxy, what would you look for?

Earthquake Relief

Transcript: When a massive natural disaster strikes, how quickly can help arrive? The United States government is pledging one hundred and fifty million dollars in earthquake relief to Venezuela. They are also deploying two search and rescue teams from Virginia and California, including dozens of highly trained people and twelve dogs! The severe earthquakes caused major damage in La Guaira, and this fast response will help locate survivors and provide critical supplies to the affected communities. The Pentagon is even helping transport government staff into the country. Have you ever helped put together an emergency kit for your family?

The King's Tax Bill

Transcript: Did you know that the British monarch does not actually have to pay taxes? King Charles just made history by publishing his twelve point nine million pound tax bill. The Royal Household released the document to encourage wider understanding of their finances. The King voluntarily pays some income tax, capital gains tax, and inheritance tax according to an agreement with the government called the Memorandum of Understanding. This historic agreement was updated in 2023 to reflect the change of monarch. Do you think all leaders should publish their tax bills for the public to see?
