Ask AI to Teach You, Not Do It for You

Lesson notes

Learn how to use ChatGPT as a tutor by asking for questions, hints and feedback instead of a finished answer. A good AI tutor should coach you through the work so you can explain what you learned.

Ask it to explain an idea, check your reasoning, offer a hint and wait while you try. These prompts can help with math, writing, science and history without relying on one app’s interface.

Try this prompt: “Help me solve this problem one step at a time. Ask me questions and give me a hint if I get stuck, but don’t give me the final answer.”

Before you turn in your work, use the Copy Test: If AI disappeared, could you explain what you submitted? If not, ask it to teach the part you still do not understand. The goal is to build the skill, not copy an answer.
