Ask AI to Explain It a Different Way

Lesson notes

Use AI prompts for students to get step-by-step explanations when a lesson doesn’t click. You can also request simpler words, an analogy, a diagram or a familiar example, then compare which explanation helps.

Try this prompt from the lesson: “Explain solving 3x + 5 = 20 one step at a time, and tell me why each step is allowed.” You can also ask AI to explain a topic as a story, compare it with a familiar idea, or show it from the opposite direction.

Compare the versions: Which one helped? What is still confusing? Analogies and stories can make a starting point, but they are not the concept itself. Ask what an analogy leaves out, then explain the idea in your own words.
